The stunt that led to Hallé's death has become known as "couch surfing" in popular online videos, which show people sitting on couches being dragged behind a vehicle at high speeds.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Another example of Darwinism in action.

I agree, but it is the media that is hyping this sort of thing, then the kids what their 15 minutes of stupidity and they try and recreate the stunt and they get hurt or killed.

For example, on Disvovery Channel in Canada, there is a daily science and tech NEWS show called Daily Planet, aweek or so ago, they did a spot light segment on a bunch of kids in Ontario that do these kinds of stunts for the Internet, the more publicity these kids get, the more daring these kids get. I was thinking WTF??? What does this have to do with science, why is this segment on this show?

Then it hit me, ahhhhhh.... they are doing a darwinian experiment... LOL

Seems every time a new educational channel (TLC, Disc., History) starts out, they're good with actual docs and science but eventually morph into the sensational, the asinine (Ancient Aliens comes to mind) or the reality show genre. The Daily Planet hasn't been the same since Jay Ingram left. (I get the Canuck version)

Agreed. I am on the "Discovery Drivers" panel, basically they send me survey links in my email every few months to preview new shows they are thinking of putting on Discovery and they are getting worse and worse. I did a survey a while back about some new shows, both were terrible; they were both reality like shows. One was on medical marijuanagrowers in California, the other was on real life Moonshine runners in the mountains; WTF? This is science?!?! I watched like 2 minutes for each of them and responded I would not watch either of them. Survey after survey at the end, in the "additional comments" section, I keep saying, "STOP the reality shows!!!"

The Daily Planet hasn't been the same since Jay Ingram left.

Agree again, but in reality (pun intended :) ) it has not been the same since it was @Discovery.ca
